Stylized 3D prop of a retro-futuristic rocket, created for a digital sculpting course. Modeled in Maya, textured in Mudbox, and rendered in Unreal Engine 5 and Marmoset Toolbag. This project reflects my interest in retro design and showcases my ability to create clean, optimized assets suitable for games or other 3D applications.

Retro Futuristic Rocket – Game Prop Design

Software Used: Autodesk Maya, Adobe Firefly, Mudbox, Unreal Engine 5, Marmoset Toolbag
Project Type: Stylized Game Prop

This stylized rocket was created for a digital sculpting class. I modeled it in Maya, applied textures in Mudbox, and used Adobe Firefly to generate rusty metal textures. The final renders were completed in both Unreal Engine 5 and Marmoset Toolbag, which I used for the first time during this project.

The design is based on classic sci-fi rocket shapes, with smooth curves and pointed fins repeated throughout to create a unified look. I chose red and silver as the main colors because they created strong contrast and worked well with the weathered, rusty textures. I started with rough sketches based on reference images and made adjustments as I modeled, including changing the window design from three down to one for a cleaner result.

The project took about six weeks from start to finish. It was a great learning experience, especially with new software tools, and I could complete it much faster now with the skills I’ve gained. The UVs were laid out cleanly, and the final model was designed to look good from all angles, with textures that give it a worn and retro look while still feeling stylized.

This project shows my ability to:

  • Model and sculpt a clean, stylized game prop in Maya
  • Use Mudbox and Firefly for texture creation and surface wear
  • Work with new tools like Unreal Engine 5 and Marmoset Toolbag for rendering
  • Build clean UVs for proper texture application
  • Design a 3D object with strong shape repetition and visual contrast

The Retro Futuristic Rocket highlights my growth as a 3D artist and my ability to bring personality and polish to a game-ready prop.
